Tandem lives close to the most personal parts of your day — when you wake up, when you walk the dog, when you nudge each other. This policy explains, in plain English, what information we collect, why we collect it, and what we will never do with it. It's written by our team in Brooklyn, not by a law firm. It is effective as of October 7, 2026 and applies to the Tandem apps and website, operated by Tandem Labs, Inc., Brooklyn, NY.
The short version: your habits, nudges and streaks are encrypted in transit and at rest, we never sell your data, we don't run ad trackers or third-party analytics that profile you, you can export everything anytime, and deleting your account removes your data from our servers within 30 days.
1. What we collect
We collect only what Tandem needs to work:
- Account information. Your name, email address and password (stored hashed — we can't read it).
- Your shared content. The habits, routines, nudges, notes and streaks you and your household partner create. This content is encrypted in transit and at rest.
- Household connection. Who you've paired with, so your shared checklist stays in sync between you two.
- Subscription status. Whether your household is on Free or Plus. Payments are handled entirely by the App Store and Google Play — we never see or store your card details.
- Basic technical data. Device type, app version and crash reports, so we can fix bugs. We do not use third-party analytics that profile you or track you across other apps and websites.
2. How we use it
We use your information to:
- Sync your shared checklist, nudges, team streak and weekly recap between you and your partner.
- Send only the notifications you asked for — nudges from your partner, your weekly recap, and nothing else. No engagement hacks, no "we miss you" pings.
- Provide support when you email us and keep your subscription working.
- Fix crashes and keep the service secure and reliable.
Nobody at Tandem reads your checklist. We never use your content for advertising, and we never sell your data. Tandem is paid for by subscriptions, not by you being the product.
3. Who we share it with
We share data with service providers only — companies that help us run Tandem and are bound by contracts to use your data solely to provide their service to us:
- Hosting — the encrypted infrastructure that stores and syncs your checklist.
- Email delivery — so account emails, invites and weekly recaps reach your inbox.
- Payments — handled by the App Store and Google Play; they process your payment under their own privacy policies.
That's the whole list. No ad networks, no data brokers, no third-party analytics profiling your household. We may disclose information if the law genuinely requires it, and we'll tell you when we're allowed to.
4. Data retention
We keep your data for as long as you have an account. When you delete your account (Settings → Privacy → Delete), your account and all associated data are removed from our servers within 30 days. Crash reports and server logs are kept briefly for security and debugging, then deleted on a rolling basis.
5. Your rights
You're in control of your data, wherever you live:
- Export anytime. One button in Settings exports your full history as a readable file.
- Delete anytime. One button deletes your account and every trace of it within 30 days. No support ticket, no exit survey.
- Correct or update your account details in Settings, or email us for help.
If you're in the European Economic Area or the UK, the GDPR gives you rights of access, rectification, erasure, portability, restriction and objection — the export and delete buttons cover most of these, and we'll honor the rest by email. If you're a California resident, the CCPA gives you the right to know, delete and opt out of the sale of personal information. We don't sell personal information, so there's nothing to opt out of. We will never discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights. To exercise anything you can't do in-app, email privacy@tandem.app.
6. Children
Tandem is not for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, email privacy@tandem.app and we'll delete it promptly.
7. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top and, for anything meaningful, tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. We will never quietly weaken the promises above.
